Berkeley Plantation – Virginia History and Tour

Berkeley Plantation is one of the James River’s historical claims to fame. The entire property takes up 1000 acres of land that rests directly on the banks of the James, and is home the oldest known three-story brick mansion in Virginia. The mansion’s historical significance makes it one of the prime tourist destinations in Virginia and certainly one of the most notable attractions along the James River.

Gaither’s Plantation – A Overview of the Haunted History

The Gaither’s Plantation is nestled in the town of Covington, Newton County. Newton county itself was created from portions of surrounding Henry, Jasper, and Walton counties and was once part of the Creek Indian nation. It was created in 1821 and named after Revolutionary War hero, Sergeant John Newton. The county seat of Newtonsborough became the city of Covington in 1822. The town is named after General Leonidas Covington, a hero of the War of 1812.
